Book Sale Successful

Thank you to everyone who purchased items at our book sale.  The sale was well attended and will provide extra funds for the library's children's programs.

Dr. Seuss Challenge Great Success!

Many many Dr. Seuss books were read in response to the Dr. Seuss Challenge Event at the library.  Thanks to all who participated, and to all who supported.  We know those little ones need rides, being read to, help with lists, and much encouragement.  You all make a difference!

Celtic Storm Event Packs the Library

Celtic Storm swept into town on St. Patrick's Day, enchanting the crowd of over 160 at the Missouri Valley Public Library, Saturday, March 17.  Hailing from the Bellevue Dance Academy, the group of six young girls, dressed in celtic regalia performed a series of Irish dances on the library's front foyer.  The girls range in age from 9 to 15.  Their instructor is Teri Gibbons.  Stop in the library to see photos of the event.

23 Youngsters Learned Basic Crochet

Members of the Missouri Valley Needle Arts Group gave free classes to third, fourth and fifth graders on March 28.  It was a great success.  Adults and children were pleased with the creative learning that took place.  Thank you to the patient crafters who gave the lessons.  See photos at the library and in the Times-News.

Automated System Launched

We are now using our automated system for checkout, as well as cataloging and searching.   As always, we can use your patron ID number or your name when we check out materials to you.

As patrons, you may use this website to HOLD books that you wish us to reserve for you.  (Please understand that we only check online HOLD requests once a day, and the item you asked us to hold may have been checked out in the meantime. You may call to check for sure if the book is waiting for you. Also, some books will be listed as "available" though they are still checked out under the old system.)  You may also renew items you have already checked out.  To do either of these online, you will need to create your own patron account.  This is easily done when you click the "Log In" tab on the home page.  You will need to enter your patron ID number, then create an account.

Thank you for your patience!  We hope you will enjoy the benefits of automation.

Download Audiobooks and eBooks for Free!

Our library has subscribed to a new and exciting service for our patrons, which enables you to download eBooks and Audiobooks at no charge.  There are thousands of titles to choose from, many of which are recent releases and best sellers.  Patrons now have the opportunity to enjoy titles on your computer, MP3 player, or burn them to CD. Stop in the library to pick up a card that includes the website and get more information.  Or, call the library:  712-642-4111

Many new books on CD have been given to the library as memorials to Harold Divelbess, a long-time library patron.  Thank you to the Divelbess family for this wonderful tribute that will be enjoyed by many.

THANK YOU, PAMIDA!

Thank you to Missouri Valley's Pamida for the many boxes of wonderful new books!

Save Labels, Boxtops and Caps for Schools

Several area schools earn extra money by redeeming labels, boxtops, etc. from sponsored projects.  You can help by clipping, snipping and saving designated items and bringing them to the library.  So far the list of items to save:

  • Labels for Education
  • Box Tops for Education
  • Campbell's Soup Labels, V8 Labels
  • Land O'Lakes milk jug caps
  • Pop tabs from aluminum can
  • Our Family labels (UPC code)
  • Wagon Wheels from Pizza Ranch boxes

Save any of these you find, toss them in a bag and bring them to the Children's library.  We have plastic containers to keep them in until we can get them delivered to participating schools.  If your school or other group is saving small items for a great cause, let us know.  Possibly we can be a "drop-off point" for those items also!  Thank you for helping out!
